Job Description
DCD Engineering has immediate openings for Industrial Control System Automation Engineers.  These positions involve the engineering design, integration, programming, testing and commissioning of simple to complex, small to large scale, facility control systems involving mostly state-of-the-art control platforms for PLC/HMI/DCS systems.
Successful candidates will work and mentor under Intermediate and Senior Controls Engineers and will be able to develop their careers and expertise in an exciting team atmosphere with variable types of projects.
Most design work will be completed in a professional office environment in DCD's Edmonton location and one will be able to experience the results of their work during the onsite commissioning phase to facilitate the startup of the projects through to full scale operation.
Some of the daily tasks and skill-sets required of the position include:
  • Initial control system design/architecture development;
  • Control system Engineering Document production;
  • Control system programming of controllers and human machine interfaces;
  • Program testing and validation;
  • Client Functional Acceptance Testing;
  • Commissioning document production;
  • Site commissioning and facility startup;
  • Control System optimization;
  • Ongoing client operations support and trouble-shooting of client facilities.
Skills and Qualifications
The applicants ideally should possess the following qualifications:
  • An engineering degree (Computer, Electrical, Chemical Process Control) from a credited Canadian University;
  • Be a hands-on, self learner, self starter able to quickly take on new responsibilities and challenges under the direction of a more senior engineer and be able to work individually or in a team environment.
  • Have a genuine interest in a career as a Controls Systems Engineer including all aspects from design through to implementation in an industrial environment;
  • Computer literate in the Microsoft Operating Systems (Servers and PC's) and computer networking;
  • Able to be part of a project team and/or lead a team of individuals by managing a small project team and be a part of or lead a site commissioning;
  • Well organized and work under pressure or able to work in a high pressure situation/environment;
  • Possesses a strong command, orally/written of the English language and able to communicate effectively;
  • Able to perform some out-of-town work tasks (commissioning) and maintain a valid Class 5 drivers license;
  • Two to five years experience in the industry would be beneficial, although all levels of experience will be considered.
